The Harlem Renaissance My essay is about the Harlem Renaissance and two authors that had major roles in the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance started as a dinner party hosted by Charles S. Johnson of the National Urban League. The National Urban League was super active in helping African-Americans in addressing the social issues in their communities as well as promoting civil rights. The Harlem Renaissance was a migration of 7 million African-Americans moving to the north for better education, jobs and little brutal racism. The Harlem Renaissance produced the first middle class African-Americans in the United States. Claude McKay was one(a) of my authors I had chosen for this assignment. Claude was born in Sunnyville, Clarendon Parrish, Jamaica. Claude was the youngest of 11 siblings and was sent to his oldest brother who was an educator to learn at a young age. Claude was an avid reader and began to write meter at the age of ten years old. Claude was inspired by Booker T. Washington and attended Tuskegee Institute.

Claude expanded his poetry and was one of the sacred leaders in the group of young poets know as the Harlem Renaissance. He was great at writing protestation poetry and representing the working class as well as one of the first minority writers to be published by a major publisher. One of his best-known verse forms If We Must Die. was an inspirational poem for African-American men who were being harassed by whites and finally they fought back. The poem was universal in its message to chip back that The Great Winston Churchill used the poem to rally British and American Soldiers to fight in Europe. Claude establishes passion from the beginning of the poem if we must die-let it not be like hogs.
