Experiment 29 -------Hydro metallurgy to Analyze a Chromite S adenosine monophosphatele (A Self-Directed Experiment)

* PURPOSE:To avow the presence of the components of Chromite- Iron, Magnesium, and chromium- in an aqueous beginning in put in to identify and unknown sample of ore.
* MATERIALS:
* Iron (III) nitrate, solid & Chromium (III) nitrate, solid
* 1.00 M Hydrochloric acid, solution & 4 M Sodium hydroxide solution
* Zinc metal
* MeasureNet® spectrophotometer and cuvettes
* Normal lab glasswork and equipment
* INTODUCTION
Chromite is the only mineral ore of chromium. Chromium has various uses including the production of guiltless steel, enhancement of nonferrous alloys , hardenability and the adjustments of these alloys to be more resistant to corrosion and oxidation. Chromium has other more familiar everyday uses including: the plating in metals, pigments, leather processing, catalysts, surface treatments, and refaractories. The most common form of chromite is the obscure iron magnesium chromium oxide.

However, in some samples, magnesium can veer for iron, and aluminum and ferric ions can substitute for chromium (Experiment 29â€"379).
A procedure that utilizes aqueous solution chemistry for the recovery of metals from salts, minerals, or ores by extractive metallurgy is known hydrometallurgy. The source step of the process is extracting the metal. Extraction is the process of removing metal from ore by dissolving the metal in a suitable solvent, whence recovering the metal from the solution, and discarding waste materials; operations to perform extraction includes leaching (dissolving by water or acid), which is common with additive agents; separating the waste and purifying the leach solution; and precipitating the metal or one of its pure compounds from the leach solution by chemical or...If you want to get a full essay, read it on our website: Orderessay
