A personal statement
is perceived by many as being close, if not similar in meaning to a
resume. At the mention of a personal statement, several persons think
of curriculum vitae and would instantly set off preparing a nice
summary of their academic achievements together with professional
highlights.
Well, there is some similarity in a personal statement
and a resume, but it’s worth pointing out that notable distinctions
exist between the two. Likening the two would amount to saying that
to write my essay means the same as to draft a research proposal.
A
personal statement is what features most in academic papers, so the
meaning should be apparent from this essay. When one fills in an
application for a scholarship, he/she may be asked to present a
personal statement. I experienced this when I was applying for my
Masters scholarship, I was sure I would be asked to write my essay.
What caught me off guard was to be told to give a personal statement.
Luckily, before beginning to write my essay, I usually read wide as
this always gave me valuable material to write my essay with
reference to.
In one instance, I was reading a manual on APA style
papers when I discovered the new vocabulary of personal statement. I
had not read about it in detail but I could remember at least
something about a personal statement. I am always confident when I
write my essay. I am sure this is what makes me write my essay in an
unmatched style. As the potential sponsor watched me write my essay,
he couldn’t help commending my composure. Besides, the way the
ideas flowed so easily right from the start impressed him so much he
said it was unnecessary to continue to write my essay.
