The Great Depression

Though non the overnight war in our history, it was the bloodiest. Though everyone wanted the war to end, not everyone was prepared when it did. The first signs of trouble came from the farmers. With 65 million soldiers needing to be fed, the farmers adopted new methods of farming that, though they required much machinery, yielded exponenti eachy larger crop outputs. When the war was over, however, there was no longer the need for that quantity of food and not all of it could be consumed. This over labor lead to plummeting food costs, and many farmers went bang up and defaulted on loans as a result of it. The same happened in almost every industry touched by the war. Businesses were lay out far more than the people could consume, so retailers had to thrash about prices to push out any of their remaining product. The effects of this miscalculated production cycle occurred years before the onset of the economic troubles that we nowadays know as the Great Depression, and would not have, in and of themselves, been in fiscal matters damaging to the majority of the populace.

While they did cause many banks to polish due to money lost to defaulting farmers, the main problem that it caused was unemployment. When the farmers and separate producers around the country, and the rest of the world, were hit by the losses that were caused by their overproduction, they needed to do something to come toset the damages in assign to stay afloat. The first thing that they would do is they would lay off their workers. This, though it reduced the production costs that the companies incurred, would later damage them. When so many workers were fired all at once, they all either remained unemployed or were forced to take jobs with a smaller income.
