Growing up, I was fascinated with machines and electronics, which grew to a love of computers. later on high school graduation, I was eager to enroll in college, only to discover that perhaps it was not the best attainable decision at that time in my life, as my bring was diagnosed with cancer. I made the decision to set aside my design of earning a college degree then with the excuse, just for this year. As time passed, my excuse evolved to maybe someday, as the anticipation of a college degree drifted further away, until it was a distant memory.
Today, my flummox serves as my greatest inspiration to me academically. The tenacity she exhibited whilst holding our family unitedly and her ability to balance family and career I admired.
As a Registered Nurse for three decades, my mother valued education, encouraging my sisters and me to toy hard to achieve our hopes and dreams in life. She was a living practice of the American Dream, and a role model. Watching her go through cancers remission, then return, I see true joy and happiness, as well as sorrow in life.
My mothers death served as a catalyst for me to pursue my life-long professional dream of a college degree.
