The crucible, Written by Arthur Miller, Was first preformed in 1953. Its relevancy to McCarthyism, and the hysteria of that time shocked the media and all those who watched it, and because of this, it is one of the near successful and well-known plays of all time. The House Un-American affectivities commission (Or The Committee, for short) was established in 1938 to investigate any individual(a) or group who threatened North Americas safety as a capitalist democracy. Of course, in the head of the cold war, paranoia was at an all time high, and The Committee was root out possible communist sympathisers. Anyone acc utilize was brought before a tribunal, and even if they were not thrown into prison, their names were blackened and they practically lost their jobs. This is reflected, plainly, and more subtly in the crucible, and is the main factor in this play that creates tension for the people viewing the play. The certain base of the plot is john proctor, a tragic hero, where not only does he unfortunately fall to desolation, but withal his character captures the sympathy and pity from the audience or readers.

Act one
